Generating documents from templates

Updated over 2 months ago

Wemply allows you to create document templates and automatically generate documents based on them. For example, you can upload an employment contract as a template and later use it to automatically generate an employment contract for a new employee.

By using document templates, you can generate documents for all kinds of documents used in everyday operations.

You’re not limited to pre-existing ones — templates can be used in any module or additional table. A more detailed guide on this can be found here:

First, let's create an employment contract document using Microsoft Word.

The file format must be .docx after saving. In the content, similarly to notification templates, you must use the format {{PlaceholderText}} for fields that will be filled in by Wemply based on its data.

Please make sure that the text inside {{ }} contains no special characters or diacritics (including spaces).

In this example, we have fields for the employee’s name, personal identification number, address, and employment start date. We want Wemply to automatically fill these in the template when a new employee is added.

Next, go to Wemply > Settings > Document Templates and upload the created document.
Wemply will automatically detect the replaceable fields in the document and allow you to link them with Wemply fields.

Now we can use the document template to generate an employment contract.

We add a new employment contract for the employee and select the document template to use. Wemply will generate an employment contract file for the employee based on their data. This may take a few minutes depending on the size of the document being generated.

Soon, we will see that Wemply has generated a PDF-format employment contract for the employee, with all the fields nicely filled in with their personal information.
